Tuition Reduction

Explorations Academy offers a Tuition Reduction for families based on need. This variable amount is determined by an independent company, TADS (Tuition and Data Services). See information below to apply.

Family Participation Requirement

We want our tuition to reflect affordability for Whatcom and Skagit County families.

All families are expected to volunteer and participate a minimum of 72 hours per year, from August to June, (8 hours per month for 9 months, or  6 hours over 12 months), with at least half of those hours going towards meaningful fundraising or cost-saving activity.

Activities include:
Required Parent Meetings, Blisterama! shifts, watering plants, driving busses to storage, being on the Board or Committee, hosting a fundraiser, marketing on Facebook, photographing events, cleaning or organizing the school, writing thank you notes, attending networking events, and more!

Anyone can fulfil the family participation requirement – including the Students themselves, Parents, Grandparents, Friends!

Single Semester

$2,562  – $4,125 $3,010 – $4,962

Part-Time High School and Middle School

Serving Running Start students, homeschool students, or younger students traveling a long distance.

Our small school is able to be flexible enough to allow for the best mixture of Explorations Academy and other resources our community allows.

At this time, tuition will be set in partnership with Families, our Finance Committee, and Board on a case-by-case basis, as we discover what standard offerings are desired by our community.

Potential Additional Costs

Personal Gear

Personal gear and supplies, such as outdoor clothing, equipment (or rental fees), passport/Enhanced ID, laptop (we recommend Chromebooks) are paid by the family.

A limited grant from InvestED is available to cover some of these costs.

We also offer gear swaps and recommend thrift-store shopping when possible. If you do buy new, please consider using SCRIP when you make your purchase.

International Expedition
generally $4,000 – $5,000

The International Expedition fee varies depending on location. Fundraising assistance is available.

Independent Study (.5 Credit): $330

Students who pursue studies in addition to those offered within their program under the guidance of an Explorations Academy faculty member are responsible for additional independent study fees in .5 increments.

Matriculation Fee (Graduation Year): $455.00

This fee will be billed upon enrolling for the senior year. This fee covers the substantially elevated staff attention and workload that senior students require.

 Tuition Reduction

In just a few steps, you will be able to complete the Tuition Reduction  application process.

Step 1: Download the Financial Aid Worksheet . This worksheet is for your benefit only. You will not be required to submit this worksheet to TADS.

Click here to apply at tads.com

Step 2: Complete all information on the worksheet. TADS will request some verification of income and expenses. Documents supporting this information will need to be uploaded or mailed within 4 days of completing the application. Do the work ahead of time!

Step 3: Once the worksheet is complete, start your Tuition Reduction Application. With a completed worksheet (above), the process should take less than 20 minutes.

If you don’t know the answer to a question during your application process, you can stop and save the application until you have it. TADS will not let you move forward until that page is complete.  If you have questions about any of the information being asked of you, please contact TADS directly.

Click here to apply at tads.com

Step 4: Pay the Processing Fee. The $34.00 processing fee is made payable to TADS, failure to pay the processing fee will delay the evaluation.

Step 5: Upload or mail the requested documents to TADS within 4 days.

TADS – Tuition Paying Process

All families make their tuition payments through the TADS system, regardless of whether or not they are receiving a Tuition Reduction, Paying-In-Full at once, or as a payment plan.
